I am committed to mentoring and empowering underrepresented minorities to pursue careers in STEM fields. I have enjoyed working with diverse populations including collaborating with The LeBron James Family Foundation to teach students about science through the medium of basketball and developing engaging STEM curriculum for undeserved minorities in STEM at Akron Public Schools. As a STEM education consultant, I worked with the Pro Football Hall of Fame administration to help design STEM activities for K-12 students related to football. Recently, I founded Sport STEMinist, which aims to use sports as a medium to build self-efficacy and self-esteem in middle school girls throughout Greater Boston. Throughout my career, I will continue to advocate for equity and inclusiveness.
My passion for scientific communication and health education has led me to interact with my community as an executive member of the American Heart Association (AHA) Akron Heart Walk. In collaboration with the other members of the executive board, we raised over $500k for the AHA and cardiovascular research.
I was an invited speaker at the NCAA Mental Health Summit and engaged in discussion with Dr. Brian Hainline, Chief Medical Officer for the NCAA. As a Division I student-athlete, I conversed with the NCAA administration about ways to address mental health. I collaborated with other student-athletes to write a white paper which resulted in changes to policies to protect and address mental health.
Together with Be The Match representatives, I educated and engaged with the greater Akron community. I helped over 500 individuals sign up to be a bone marrow donor through civic events in Akron, OH.
